Northampton is in the heart of England, some 60 miles north of London, 40 miles south of Birmingham and 40 miles east of Oxford.

Abington offers everything required for day-to-day life including shops, post office, banks, hairdressers, opticians, dentists and a good mix of restaurants offering a range of dining experiences.

Abington Park, one of Northampton's best, with its trees, grassy open spaces, lakes, aviaries and café is nearby. Land for the park was donated to the town by Lady Wantage in 1892 and it was opened to the public in 1897. Two years later, in 1899, Abington Museum was opened in the centre of the park.
The museum was formerly a manor house and William Shakespeare's granddaughter, Elizabeth Bernard, once lived there (she is buried in the nearby church). The museum now has a variety of displays such as Northamptonshire's military history, 19th Century fashion and a gallery of Northampton life.More open spaces are available at The Racecourse, so named because it was a horse racing course until 1904. During the Second World War, the park was ploughed so that local people could grow vegetables. The annual balloon festival is held here in August.

Photograph of Christchurch CourtTheatre-lovers are catered for at the town’s Royal Theatre. A beautiful Victorian theatre which opened in 1884 and was designed by CJ Phipps. It is a Grade II listed building with a seating capacity of approximately 450. The Royal produces original plays and also caters for touring shows. Scenery is built in the theatre's workshop and costumes are made in the in-house wardrobe. Errol Flynn, who was a member of the Northampton Repertory Players in the 1930s, is one of the many famous actors to tread the boards of the Royal.

Attached to the Royal is the Derngate, opened in 1983. Accommodating up to 1,200 people, Derngate mainly shows touring productions. Its seating can be modified to suit classical concerts, plays, musicals, dance, stand-up comedy and snooker and boxing tournaments. Rugby fans can visit the Northampton Saints Rugby Football Club at Franklin’s Gardens. Once a pleasure garden and zoo, owned by John Franklin, the rugby club was created by the Reverend Samuel Wathen Wigg in 1880.
